He's Goin’ To The Chapel
By Brandon Roberts

With all the fuss over gowns, veils, and bouquets, it’s easy to forget that a husband to-be has to get dressed up, too. “Things like cufflinks, a tie tack, even shirt studs, can make him feel special, more confident about his look,” says Tim Ihrig of Nathan Tim, “and it makes the day more special for him, too.”

Groom Gear

When it comes to formalwear, today’s groom has a lot more choices than he used to. With styles that are much more individualized than before, a man can “fine tune his personal style for a unique, effortless look,” states Marco Bicego. The designer’s brand new line of men’s jewelry and accessories certainly fits the bill. Marco Bicego L’Uomo is “decidedly masculine,” featuring pieces not only in the brand’s signature gold, but also colored enamel, Italian calf leather, and black diamonds.

There are still wedding-day traditions to contend with, of course. If the bride has come up with her “something old,” “something new,” and “something borrowed,” but is missing her “something blue,” Paula Crevoshay suggests she look no further than on the altar next to her. The designer’s pick for husbands-to-be is Crevoshay Studios’ blue moonstone and sapphire black-tie set. “Blue is a great color theme for weddings,” she asserts, “and most men look really great in blue.”

For the traditional man, Ihrig suggests pieces that are simple. “The most appropriate and easiest to wear would be more neutral—something that is handsome and elegant, but will not upstage a beautiful white shirt.”

Guy Gifting

After a fiancé has bought an engagement ring, there are plenty of other opportunities to help him make the day especially memorable. Men usually don’t think of a jewelry store as a place to buy their attendants’ gifts…but they should.

“Cufflinks always make a great gift for groomsmen,” points out Crevoshay.“ Every time a guy puts [them on], he will be reminded of the strong, lasting bond that he has in his friend’s life.”

There are scores of other non-apparel gift items that most fine jewelry retailers carry, as well. Grooms can’t go wrong with elegant gifts for their groomsmen such as:
• engraved pocket watches,
• fine writing instruments,
• business card cases,
• monogrammed key rings and money clips,
• Swiss Army knives,
• personalized signet rings, and
• sterling silver lighters.

Whatever he chooses, a husband-to-be should buy quality pieces, as opposed to trendy items. “The jewelry he purchases will be forever attached to the special memories of the wedding and the love between him, his bride, and their friends and family,” emphasizes Crevoshay. “He should buy the best he can afford at the time because he is investing for a lifetime.”  JQ
